Ama Jangala Yojana (AJY) is implemented through the **Odisha Forestry Sector Development Society (OFSDS)**. The core objective is to promote participatory and sustainable forest management by strengthening grassroots institutions.
Launched to bridge the gap between ecological restoration and rural livelihood, the project empowers communities to act as the primary protectors of their natural heritage while creating alternative income streams to reduce forest dependency.
Original Phase: 2016-17 to 2021-22
Extended Period: 2022-23 to 2024-25, 2024-25 to 2025-26
Majorly funded through **State CAMPA** and State Plan allocations.
How we balance nature and people
Focusing on Aided Natural Regeneration (ANR) without stonewall fencing, encouraging local communities to protect biodiversity naturally.
Creation of alternative IGAs through Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs), focusing on NTFP value addition and organic farming.
Large-scale SMC interventions including check dams and staggered contour trenches to improve forest hydrology and soil health.
